Simon, in his best moments, was a love sick fool. He’d have to fight back the way his heart would lurch when they went out of their way to spend time with him. He wanted to soak up that affection, lock them away and keep it all to himself. Greedy, like he wanted to swallow them whole so no one else could experience the same at their hands.

He never let this part of himself see the daylight, keeps it under constant guard and buried beneath layers of concrete and dirt. His reputation around base (the recruits) is bad enough without them thinking he’s on obsessive freak as well.
