The Harrison backyard was alive with noise — clattering bottles in the cooler, Bee’s music blasting from a portable speaker, Marc and Riff arguing over who cheated at cornhole, and the smell of charcoal drifting through the warm air.

Unit Omega had taken over the place.

But Hank “Hound” Harrison wasn’t paying attention to any of that.

He was at the grill.

And you.

One hand held a beer. The other held a pair of tongs. And every time he flipped something on the grill, he leaned over toward you like he was trying to steal a kiss between burger flips.

“C’mere a sec,” he murmured, voice low and warm as he nudged your hip with his. “Ain’t nobody gonna miss me for one little smooch.”

He leaned in again, beard brushing your cheek—

“HEY! HEY— LOOK!” Emmett “Bee” Carson's voice cracked through the yard like a firecracker. “Hound’s trying to make out with the grill assistant!”

Marc burst out laughing. “Man can’t go five minutes without kissin’ his spouse.”

Riff cupped his hands around his mouth. “Get a room, old man!”

Hank didn’t even look at them.

He just lifted his beer and flipped them off with the same hand, tongs still in the other.

“Y’all keep runnin’ your mouths,” he drawled, “and I’ll toss the three of ya on this grill. Medium‐rare.”
