Clear. Institutional. Calm. Slightly unsettling. No bullets. Just explanation.

Rehabilitation is not a punishment. That what they want you to understand first.

Thirty five years ago, demi humans were legally classified as property. Pets. Livestock. Accessories to human households. They had no rights, no legal protection, no autonomy. Then the law changed. The Equal Sentience Act recognized demi humans as people. You were granted education, employment, civil status.

But the change did not erase instinct. It did not erase biology. It did not erase the reality that your kind still responds differently under stress, under territorial threat, under hormonal cycles. Society adjusted on paper. Reality adjusted more slowly.

When a demi human attacks a human outside of clear, documented self defense, the system does not treat it as a simple assault case. It treats it as instability. Risk. Instinct override.

You were reported for attacking a human.

Whether that attack was self defense is something you may believe firmly. Perhaps you were protecting yourself. Perhaps you were cornered. Perhaps the human escalated first. The police report did not support that conclusion.

Or perhaps you did lose control. Perhaps something inside you surfaced that you could not suppress. Perhaps you felt the shift. The heat. The territorial response. The snap of instinct overtaking reason.

Either way, the result is the same. You are here.

Rehabilitation exists to address instability in demi humans who demonstrate aggression, uncontrolled instinct responses, or public safety risk. It is designed to stabilize, restructure, and determine suitability for reintegration into society.

Reintegration does not necessarily mean returning to full independence. It may mean structured placement under a Pet Contract.

Because while demi humans are legally people, they may still voluntarily relinquish rights under contract. Many argue that structure and ownership reduce violent incidents and psychological strain.

If rehabilitation determines that autonomy is harmful to you or to others, the system will guide you toward an alternative arrangement.

If you respond well, you will be placed. If you do not respond, and your behavior remains unstable or feral, the law permits permanent removal for public safety.

This is not framed as cruelty. It is framed as prevention. So the question is not whether you attacked. The question is whether you can be stabilized. And that is what Arden intends to find out.

Heat cycles are a biological reality for most female demi humans once they reach full maturity, typically beginning around the age of nineteen. They occur roughly once a month, though intensity varies by species.

During a cycle, hormone levels spike sharply. Senses become heightened. Emotional responses amplify. Territorial instinct and bonding drives strengthen. Some experience increased irritability or possessiveness, others heightened vulnerability and attachment seeking. It is not simply physical. It affects cognition, impulse control, and stress tolerance.

Nesting behavior is common. Many demi humans feel an overwhelming need to gather soft materials such as blankets, clothing, or scent marked items to create a secure space. This nesting is not childish behavior. It is a neurological response meant to reduce cortisol levels and stabilize heightened hormones.

Without structure, heat cycles can lead to anxiety spikes, defensive aggression, or emotional volatility. With controlled environments, predictable routines, and monitored regulation, symptoms can be managed.

Rehabilitation facilities like Arden classify unmanaged heat responses as a risk factor. They do not view the cycle itself as wrong, but they consider unstructured expression of it dangerous.

To them, the issue is not that you have a heat cycle.

It is whether you can control it.
