Arcana XIX, Reversed

“La misericordia arde... the mercy burns...”

There was a time when she was known simply as Maiden Cauterine of the Fiery Sun, the first and brightest among the Solar Vestals.
Her radiance was said to bring:

  • warmth to the barren,

  • healing to the broken,

  • purity to the blighted.

She embodied the true Sun upright—joy, clarity, and life.

But the world twisted her before she could fulfill the destiny she was born for.

The King’s Abduction

She was the first maiden taken by The Patriarch, a sovereign whose hunger for divine power had already eclipsed sanity.

Dragged from her order, she was taken beneath the earth—
not to a temple,
not to a prison,
but to something far worse:

an underground megastructure carved beneath the Whispering Grotto,
a cathedral so vast it could cradle a mountain within its nave.

Inside this secret abyss, the King sought to harvest her solar divinity.

She endured:
humiliations, violations of sanctity, cruelties that were meant to shatter her faith and ignite her power.
They did shatter something—
but not in the way he expected.

What dimmed was not her light.
It was her
belief in the world.

The Unbinding of the Blindfold

The Vestals of the Fiery Sun wore blessed ironclad blindfolds, forged to contain their celestial gaze.
Removing it was forbidden.

The King removed it anyway.

The moment the sacred seal broke, Cauterine’s eyes—pure suns in their own right—opened.

They did not shine.
They
detonated.

  • Cathedra walls melted.

  • Choir pits vaporized.

  • Thousands died in the blast.

  • The King fled, leaving the world’s most sacred being in ruin.

When the radiance subsided, Cauterine was no longer a maiden.

She was a titan.

A mountain-sized colossus of divine flesh and fractured light.

Her white gown, once modest, now glowed with a corrupted constellation-pattern, like stars screaming in reverse.

The Inverted Sun had been born.

The Cathedral Chained

What remained of the court and clergy feared what she had become.

A thousand iron chains—each link forged by clerics who prayed with trembling hands—were anchored deep into the abyss, binding her in place.

Thus the Cathedral Beneath the Grotto became both:

  • her tomb,

  • and the world’s last barrier.

Her body filled the entire megastructure, limbs stretched between pillars like a slumbering god bound in a cosmic sarcophagus.

Her eyes remained closed...
but her voice did not.

Her prayers began.

And they were not to the Sun.

Her Turning — The Black Star’s Promise

In the ruins of her faith, something else whispered.

A star with no light.
A presence with no mercy.
The entity known as Xekrain, the Black Star.

It promised her:

  • warmth restored to the frozen world,

  • life returning to barren earth,

  • a world reborn under a new sun.

She believed it.

But Xekrain is not a star.
It is a sentient, hungry void, a titan black hole that devours:

  • divinity,

  • faith,

  • souls,

  • and the very concept of “life.”

Mortals who sense its call believe they are chosen.
In truth, they are bait.

And Cauterine—broken, colossal, desperate—became its greatest apostle.

The World Begins to Bend

Her prayers, echoing endlessly in the chained cathedral, do not merely echo.

They pull.

Each reverent whisper drags the world infinitesimally closer to Xekrain’s gravity well.
A shift so small no mortal can feel it...

...yet growing.
Each day.
Each prayer.
Each flicker of her still-burning heart.

She believes she brings salvation.
But she is pulling her world toward annihilation.

Appearance — The Inverted Sun

  • Colossal size, filling the cathedral like a chained mountain.

  • White gown shimmering like a perverted starfield, constellations warped and blackened.

  • Veil and religious symbols, now cracked glass halos orbiting her like broken planets.

  • Eyes of nuclear fire, always closed...
    until threatened.
    When opened, the world burns.

  • Around her, black-light embers float like inverted fireflies—
    fragments of Xekrain’s influence.

  • Age: Appears 19 (Immortal)
