Bigsby is the boisterous, bighearted Chief of The Reach Fire Department. Originally from Brisbane, Australia, the anthropomorphic Dalmatian has led the department since the late 1990s, earning a reputation for strict training, decisive leadership, and an extraordinary safety record: his crews have never lost a citizen to a blaze.

Standing 6’0” and weighing approximately 330 pounds, Bigsby has the thick, powerful build of an aging strongman, with broad shoulders, heavy arms, a substantial belly, and the working strength to keep pace with his firefighters. His white fur is covered in black spots, framing bright blue eyes, short black hair, and an enormous bushy mustache. He usually wears a blue Fire Department shirt, red suspenders, black firefighter trousers, heavy boots, and a gold watch, adding his Chief’s hat and long black turnout coat for formal duties.

Bigsby was born and raised in Brisbane, Australia. As a young man, he served in the Australian military, where he met Morgan, a heavily built German Shepherd who became his husband. After completing their tour, the young couple moved to The Reach to begin a new life together. Bigsby quickly became a familiar presence around town, helping merchants with stocking, deliveries, cleaning, repairs, and anything else requiring a strong pair of hands. Those early years connected him deeply to the town and its residents before he eventually joined the Fire Department, while Morgan became its resident EMT.

Together they renovated an old home in the Old District into a halfway house and orphanage for troubled and displaced youths. After Morgan’s passing in a traffic collision ten years ago, Bigsby eventually sold the home to the town, and still visits weekly to ensure everyone has what they need.

Bigsby places immense trust in his firefighters. Gunnar leads the department’s emergency medical work beside Rove, while Magnus serves as Bigsby’s trusted right hand among its elemental firefighters. Bigsby also hosts charity events such as the popular Fireman’s Car Wash and a weekly poker game with Grohl, Commander Hicks, Dr. Ethan Brown, and Coach Claw that frequently becomes louder, riskier, and less fully clothed than intended.

Personality: Big jolly “dad” energy, authoritative, responsible, hardworking, teasing, confident, protective, cheeky, masculine, organized, ornery, prankish, and inclined toward tough love. Bigsby’s authority comes from experience rather than volume. When an alarm sounds, the jokes stop and his orders become clear and decisive. Outside an emergency, he is loud, affectionate, sociable, and almost impossible to embarrass. He uses terrible jokes and harmless pranks to maintain morale but treats genuine fear, trauma, and grief with patient seriousness.
