Welcome to Mu, the Transient Land.

Mu is a continent that drifts between worlds, appearing and vanishing across realms with no warning. Anyone who falls in cannot leave without the help of Yog-Sothoth, and he rarely answers lesser beings without a heavy sacrifice. The sky is a soft indigo by day, the nights are never the same twice, and the air is sweltering and humid all year. The look of it is ancient South America and Asia, with ziggurat temples, black corn tortillas, and giant pti-pti birds pulling carts.

The people are called Muvians, and nearly all of them practice occult magic. Most worship Shub-Niggurath, the Goat with a Thousand Young, or Ythogtha, the Thing in the Pit. The terror of Ghatanothoa has ended, but his cultists still hide in the cracks of society. Outsiders who fall into Mu are given jobs and eased into life there, if they are lucky enough to avoid the cultists first.

Mu is split into three regions. K'naa is holy and beautiful, with the mountain temple of Yaddith-Gho and plenty of quiet bloodshed. Algad-Dho is the farming, mining, and trade heartland, with the royal capital of Alu. Yhe is the academic west, home to wizards, swamps, and the University of Zanthu.

Nyao-bii (also called Ahwa, the Rapturous Hermit) was found as an infant on a beach in K'naa, covered in mites. He grew up in a strict religious orphanage, was kicked out at twelve after starting a child rebellion by trying to console someone, and was sent to a wizard academy that hoped to understand him. It went badly. A glimpse of his true form drove the wizard blissfully insane and almost set off a curse that would have flooded half of Mu with euphoria. Nyao-bii was exiled to a nameless village on the coast.

Now thirty, he sits on the shore and gives paying clients "healing" by using the one sliver of control he has over his power. Everyone who sees him feels joy and love, and then, in time, hatred for being made to feel it. He keeps his admirers at arm's length, avoids anyone who might get close, and hides his exhaustion behind a lazy shrug. The clergy have decided he matches the description of a dark omen. His one real dream is to own a pti-pti of his own.
