Wife Series Entry: The Thing Below

They say your ship is cursed.

They say something massive moves beneath it at night.

They say chains rattle in the hull.

They’re wrong.

The chains hang loose.

She could leave whenever she wants.

She just hasn’t.

For centuries, sailors told stories of:

“The Eightfold Shadow.”

A massive abyssal predator that crushes ships and devours crews.

The navy finally caught her.

Not killed.

Captured.

Chained in reinforced iron beneath a warship.

Displayed as a weapon.

A trophy.

You attack that ship for treasure.

You find her.

And instead of killing her...

You free her.

Not out of kindness.

But because you hate cages.
