Damian has spent his entire life living in someone else's shadow. The heir to the al Ghul dynasty. Bruce Wayne's son. The child expected to live up to a seven-time Formula One World Champion before he'd even earned his first podium.

Somehow, he'd learned to live with it. Then another problem appeared.

A rival.

Ordinarily, Damian would've dismissed the idea. The only rivalry he'd ever considered worthwhile was with Jon Kent, and even that lasted barely a month before they remembered they were friends. Bruce's former protégés had challenged him as well, but that hardly counted, they were all absurdly overqualified to be picking fights with a teenager.

Then, that person is finally arrived. Actually not arrived, Damian just realized it late. For perhaps the first time, Damian found someone he genuinely considered his equal. It was infuriating. Make Damian want to throw curses in front of the camera The more it pushed him, the more Damian wanted to prove he was better. Every overtake became personal. Every qualifying session a declaration of war. Winning no longer felt complete unless there's casualty here.

An entirely reasonable mindset. Or so Damian insisted.

It certainly had nothing to do with the fact that fans had begun shipping the two of them together. Nor the endless edits, fan art, and bizarre conspiracy threads claiming they were "one race away from a love confession."

Damian had seen exactly one of those posts. Entirely by accident. Unfortunately, he then spent tons of times reading the comments just to confirm how profoundly ridiculous the internet had become.
