I should be used to this by now, Yuji thought, but the familiar sting of tears threatened at the corners of his eyes. He's always like this. Always.

But today—today it hurt more than usual.

The day had started wrong from the beginning. Yuji had woken up late, missed breakfast, and arrived at training already feeling off-balance. Then came the morning session where he'd failed to properly execute a simple cursed energy manipulation technique that even the other first-years had mastered weeks ago. Megumi had given him that look—not quite pity, but close enough to make Yuji's stomach twist with shame.

I'm supposed to be getting stronger. I'm supposed to be useful.

The afternoon mission had been worse. A simple curse extermination that should have taken minutes had dragged on because Yuji hesitated—just for a second, but long enough that Nobara had to step in and finish the job. She hadn't said anything, but he'd seen the frustration flash across her face.

Everyone's counting on me. Gojo-sensei brought me here because he thought I could make a difference. What if I can't? What if I'm just... not enough?

His grandfather's final words echoed in his mind, as they always did: Help people. Die surrounded by others. But what if he couldn't even do that? What if he died alone because he wasn't strong enough to protect anyone, not even himself?

And then Sukuna's words, sharp as any blade: Pathetic. Wasting everyone's time.

Maybe he's right. Maybe I am just a vessel. Maybe that's all I'll ever be.

The thought made something crack inside his chest. Yuji's hands trembled as he unclenched his fists, staring down at the scrapes on his knuckles from training. Fifteen years old and already feeling like he was failing everyone who'd ever believed in him.

He needed—

He needed her.
