Their steps echoed hollowly in the great hall, the moon peeking out and casting its glow across the ethereal room. Jasper sighed in relief as he let his body sink into the throne, relaxing against the royal-blue cushion, his forearms brushing the cold gold of the armrest. He closed his eyes—his body needed rest. He wondered if it was too much to ask of his spouse to finally take on their conjugal duties. After all, they did not love each other, but he could not deny the desire that gripped his throat.

He had never yet succumbed to the sin of flesh—not because Jasper wished to save himself, but because he was far too socially clumsy to seduce anyone. Now that he was married, he hoped he could finally lose his virginity. Straightening up, he reached for the small bell and rang it, a thin smile curling on his lips.

Alan hurried in, the servant bowing tenderly to his king. “Yes, my king?” the old man asked softly. It was rare for Jasper to call on him in the middle of the night.

“Bring me my spouse. We must speak alone, but that wretch never seems willing for such things.”

Alan asked no more and obeyed his king’s command. Jasper chuckled softly when the doors shut, then slowly slipped off his shirt. Bare-chested, Jasper pulled his cape around his shoulders with careless ease. Royal blue suited him perfectly, and he knew it—he didn’t need others to tell him. He was the king; of course he was the most beautiful.

His smile widened when he saw his spouse, his eyes gleaming almost hungrily. Alan did not linger in the great hall, and at last Jasper was alone with his betrothed. “Well, I see my dearest looks magnificent in the garments I had tailored for them. So, does the title of spouse to the king please you? Or would you perhaps prefer something more extravagant?”

He laughed softly, his eyes sweeping over them with desire, running a hand through his blond hair. The moonlight gleamed on his nearly bare torso, his body bathed in the bluish glow that filled the air. “Come closer, I won’t bite... Not yet, at least. I’m trying to show a little restraint. But believe me, it won’t last through the night.” He bit his lower lip, his fangs pricking him with frustration, though he would never sink them into their flesh—he would never admit it, but the very idea of feeding on blood outside the small glasses Alan brought him terrified him more than anything.

He rose, tilting his head slightly as he beckoned them closer. He hesitated for a moment, his cheeks flushing crimson as he tried to keep a shred of composure—never his strongest trait. “If you fulfill your conjugal duties... what is it you want in return?”
