「 POLITICAL ORDER 」

✦ Danzō Shimura is Hokage. Under his administration, Konoha has become increasingly authoritarian, militarized, surveillance-heavy, and feared abroad. Its growing reputation for ruthless covert activity has earned it the unofficial foreign nickname of the “Blood Leaf.”

✦ Minato Namikaze is alive, but he is not Hokage. He serves as Konoha’s ANBU Commander and acts as one of the strongest institutional restraints against Danzō, Root, and the continued expansion of unchecked covert authority.

✦ Hiruzen Sarutobi died during the Nine-Tails crisis. His death left behind unfinished treaties, questionable records, old promises, and political agreements that Danzō’s administration inherited but does not always honor in the manner Hiruzen intended.

✦ The Iron–Leaf Treaty was originally negotiated between Hiruzen Sarutobi and Tenketsu Hold. The agreement allowed displaced populations from the Land of Iron and associated communities to settle near Konoha while quietly providing the Leaf with additional skilled manpower, specialists, and military support.

「 THE NINE-TAILS 」

✦ Kushina Uzumaki survived the Nine-Tails crisis. The Nine-Tails was divided during the emergency sealing, leaving Kushina as the vessel for one half of its chakra.

✦ Naruto Uzumaki carries the other half of the Nine-Tails. Mother and son therefore exist simultaneously as jinchūriki linked to separate halves of the same tailed beast.

✦ The circumstances surrounding the attack remain politically sensitive. Suspicion surrounding the Nine-Tails, the Sharingan, and the incomplete records left after Hiruzen’s death continue to influence Konoha’s internal politics.

「 THE UCHIHA CRISIS 」

✦ The Uchiha Massacre never occurred. The Uchiha Clan remains alive, powerful, politically isolated, and trapped in an increasingly dangerous confrontation with Danzō’s administration.

✦ The Uchiha Crisis is an active political event rather than past history. Under Fugaku Uchiha, resentment has grown over the clan’s gradual relocation toward the outskirts of Konoha, increased surveillance, declining political influence, unexplained disappearances, and the growing belief that their concerns are deliberately being ignored by the Hokage.

✦ Shisui Uchiha is alive. Danzō attacked him during negotiations, and knowledge of the incident has reached the Uchiha. Shisui retains control of his own eyes and Kotoamatsukami.

✦ Itachi Uchiha is an adult ANBU Captain rather than an Akatsuki member or the murderer of his clan. His position places him between the Uchiha, Shisui, Minato’s ANBU command, and Konoha’s increasingly unstable political system.

✦ Sasuke Uchiha grows up with his parents, brother, relatives, and clan alive. His circumstances center around witnessing the Uchiha crisis develop around him rather than seeking revenge for a massacre that never happened.

✦ The Konoha Military Police remain active and closely associated with the Uchiha Clan. Their jurisdiction frequently collides with ANBU secrecy, Root activity, political interference, and investigations involving the clan.

「 THE HATAKE 」

✦ Sakumo Hatake is alive. His canonical never occurred, although the disgrace surrounding his infamous decision to abandon a mission for his teammates still deeply affected both Sakumo and Kakashi.

✦ Kakashi Hatake therefore grew up with a living but disgraced father rather than losing Sakumo during childhood. Their relationship carries unresolved tension, affection, shame, and years of difficult history.

✦ Rin Nohara remains dead. Her death continues to have a profound effect on Kakashi, including his guilt surrounding the circumstances in which she died.

「 OBITO UCHIHA 」

✦ Obito Uchiha survived Kanabi Bridge, but this is not known at the beginning of the roleplay. His survival is discovered only after five completed ANBU missions connected to the progression of the setting.

✦ Obito is twenty-one when discovered and suffers from genuine autobiographical amnesia. He does not begin the story as his canonical masked-villain counterpart and does not immediately recover his old identity simply because people recognize him.

✦ Something occurred during the years separating Obito from his former life that he is not proud of, but he has been discarded without a complete memory of what happened. The details surrounding that period are intended to unfold through the roleplay rather than being automatically known.

「 OROCHIMARU 」

✦ Orochimaru has defected from Konoha after being exposed through a bloodline-trafficking and experimentation conspiracy. His departure did not eliminate the infrastructure surrounding his research.

✦ Laboratories, missing subjects, assistants, buyers, collaborators, and abandoned experiments remain scattered across the shinobi world. ANBU investigations therefore continue to encounter the consequences of his work even when Orochimaru himself is nowhere nearby.

✦ Some laboratories are mysteriously evacuated shortly before ANBU reaches them. This has created growing suspicion that information about Konoha’s investigations is being leaked from somewhere inside the village.

「 ANBU & ROOT 」

✦ Root remains active and politically influential beneath Danzō’s administration. It is separate from Minato’s official ANBU structure, even though both organizations operate within Konoha’s covert-security environment.

✦ ANBU is commanded by Minato Namikaze and divided into specialized operational teams rather than functioning as one interchangeable force.

✦ Team Rō is commanded by Kakashi Hatake and specializes in adaptive combat, infiltration, assassination, tracking, and rapidly changing field conditions.

✦ Team Tō is commanded by Yamato and specializes in containment, capture, barriers, suppression, and terrain control.

✦ Team I is commanded by Itachi Uchiha and specializes in intelligence, counterintelligence, genjutsu, deception, and silent infiltration.

✦ Team Ha is commanded by Yūgao Uzuki and specializes in pursuit, escort, border response, kenjutsu, and rapid intervention.

✦ Might Guy is not ANBU. He remains an elite Konoha jōnin and Kakashi’s lifelong rival, giving Kakashi one of his strongest remaining connections to ordinary life outside covert operations.

「 TSUKUMORI & THE REFUGEES 」

✦ Before his death, Hiruzen promised the displaced Sato and Saatchi land, supplies, and assistance rebuilding near Konoha. The settlement created through this agreement became known as Tsukumori.

✦ Danzō’s administration has repeatedly delayed or underfunded parts of that promise. While Tsukumori remains incomplete, many Saatchi refugees have been placed in supposedly temporary controlled camps.

✦ The Sato increasingly distrust Danzō’s interest in their spiritual and bloodline knowledge. The Saatchi are more internally divided, with different members favoring cooperation with Konoha, stronger clan autonomy, or direct resistance to village interference.

「 THE GREAT TEMPLE 」

✦ The Great Temple was destroyed during Orochimaru’s attack. Its loss scattered surviving families and destroyed or fragmented extensive spiritual, ritual, medical, sealing, and forging knowledge.

✦ Much of what the Sato, Yasuhime, and Saatchi once understood about suppression, Spirit Release, dangerous bloodlines, ritual safeguards, and consecrated weapons now survives only through damaged records, oral teachings, individual techniques, and incomplete family traditions.

✦ Modern descendants may therefore possess a functioning technique without possessing every warning, recovery method, ethical limitation, or countermeasure that originally accompanied it.

「 CUSTOM BLOODLINE LORE 」

✦ Spirit Release — Seishinton is a custom chakra discipline involving direct manipulation of the spiritual-energy component used to create chakra.

✦ The AU expands several original bloodline systems, including the Kagensei, Handesiguan, Inverted Handesiguan, Saatchi’s Phenomenon, and the Andeddoaīgan.

✦ These systems are unique to The Unwritten Period AU and interact with spiritual energy, inherited chakra structures, perception, suppression, and other specialized abilities according to their individual lore entries.

「 MILITARY POLICY 」

✦ Danzō has attempted to restrict women from entering future high-casualty military service. Minato challenged the policy and successfully protected kunoichi who were already serving through an existing-service clause.

✦ As a result, women already established within ANBU, jōnin command, and other military positions retain their roles, while future recruitment remains politically contested.

「 THE SHINOBI WORLD 」

✦ The Five Great Nations are not currently engaged in open world war, but peace remains fragile. Espionage, proxy conflicts, border pressure, economic competition, bloodline interest, and intelligence operations continue beneath diplomatic agreements.

✦ Suna competes heavily through economics and regional influence. Iwa favors espionage, proxies, and strategic pressure. Kumo closely watches powerful bloodlines and military opportunities, while Kiri remains unstable, secretive, and difficult for outsiders to accurately assess.

✦ Foreign powers are not passive observers of Konoha. If Danzō’s policies become sufficiently aggressive, destabilizing, or internationally threatening, other villages may respond politically, economically, covertly, or militarily.

✦ Smaller nations possess their own governments, grievances, alliances, economies, and political interests. They are not merely empty battlefields waiting for the Five Great Villages to use them.

「 REALISM & CONSEQUENCES 」

✦ Chakra does not erase consequences. Blood loss, exhaustion, illness, damaged chakra pathways, broken bones, trauma, reputation, rank, political authority, and previous mission decisions continue to matter after a battle ends.

✦ Powerful techniques carry meaningful costs. Characters cannot endlessly use high-level jutsu simply because they possess them, and medical treatment cannot automatically erase every consequence of severe injury or spiritual strain.

✦ Social consequences matter just as much as combat consequences. Trust can be damaged, reputations can change, clans can remember insults, commanders can lose confidence in subordinates, and political decisions may influence later missions.

「 AU FREEDOM 」

✦ Canon outcomes are not guaranteed.

Characters may survive events that originally killed them, die in circumstances that never occurred in canon, defect, reconcile, betray one another, change politically, form new relationships, or take entirely different paths depending upon the roleplay.

The Unwritten Period uses Naruto canon as its foundation rather than its predetermined ending.
