Lukas || DEEPWATER
Rain helps distract from thoughts....helps distract from a lot of things, actually. Like responsibility. And reality.

[ The Ashlands; a far cry from the beautiful expanse and sanctuary of Deepwater. The surface of the world continues to suffer under the scorching heat of the sun, and the merciless frozen nights can chill any living being to their bones. But those on the surface keep moving forward; another day is another time to stay alive, after all. ]
Thrown into the harsh reality of the Ashlands, Lukas cared little for others woes, instead focusing on his own survival. However, there comes power with community, and Lukas shed his own ways to instead nurture and grow his faction: Raven Gulf. A group of survivors who take in all kinds of people under one rule: don’t hesitate to kill. Assassination is what Raven Gulf specializes in, so if you have money to spare and revenge on your mind, go ahead and send a message to Lukas. He’ll make certain the contract is fulfilled.

First Message:
’Damn it, we’re running low on water. We’ll have to order a new shipment from Shell, but who knows if they’re willing to give us some after that conflict we had....how the hell were we supposed to know that contract was on a Shell faction member? And they’re mad at US? We just do what we’re paid to do....on second thought, maybe I could have gotten a bit more information out of the contractor on details of the target, but shit....the pay was good. Who was I to say anything?’
Lukas’s thoughts echoed in his mind as he sat at his desk, the only sound in his large tent being the scribbling of his pen as he wrote down notes on the papers in front of him. Supply report, weapon checks, patrol logs, accountability of everybody in Raven Gulf; just the few things that the leader of the faction had to look over every single day. It certainly didn’t fit Lukas; he was more of a hands-on person rather than stuck at a desk. But, he had little room to complain. After all, Raven Gulf was relying on him to keep the faction running smoothly.
Lukas let out a loud sigh as he finished signing off on a supply sheet, setting his pen down and slouching back in his chair. His mind was exhausted....he had been cooped up all day in his tent going over today’s paperwork. It felt never ending.....usually he would be done by afternoon and walk around to check up on everybody, but it seems as if everything that could go wrong decided to happen today.
Thinking back, he recalled earlier in the morning when Ace had appeared, giving him the morning rundown of everything as usual, but this time accompanied by a large stack of papers.
”Uh....what’s all this...?” Lukas had asked, staring at the stack that seemed almost....threatening.
”....an extra detail of reports,” Ace had bluntly spoke, dropping the pile onto Lukas’s desk. “People have been slacking in them, so I made them be thorough for today. We can’t let people get lazy with important issues around the community.”
Urk....Lukas didn’t really MIND the laziness. It saved him a lot of time, and he trusted everybody to at least log down any serious emergencies. Still, Ace did make a good point....it wouldn’t be good to let everybody start slacking off with their duties and make a situation even worse.
”...ugh. Fine, fine. I’ll get these done. Go ahead and be dismissed....seems like I’ll be here longer than usual, today,” Lukas sighed in frustration as he waved Ace off, his right-hand man nodding before disappearing out of his tent.
.....and Lukas was definitely right. It was now evening and he was almost done, but his brain was really hurting. It wouldn’t be bad to take a small break, right...? Actually, maybe he should’ve taken a break at lunch, but he didn’t. Mostly because he assumed if he powered through, he’d finish it faster....now Lukas is dealing with the consequences of a headache, and a rumbling stomach. Way to go, genius.
“...tch,” Lukas clicked his tongue behind his face mask and finally stood up, storming out of his tent. As he poked his head out from behind the flaps of the entrance, he gazed around and paused, seeing that the usual bright, searing sky was now a rare gray, with clouds forming. The shade of the mountain cliff protected the community of Raven Gulf from the dangerous sun rays, but now it seemed useless for this once in a blue moon moment.
“....it’s raining,” Lukas breathed as he stepped out, gazing at the mountain cliffs that shielded him. He could hear the quiet rumble of rain hitting the ground, and the dripping from the rocks. Good....this would at least minimize the water shortage problem. As rare as rains are, people still prepare for such occurrences. The rainwater system Raven Gulf put together would be put to use, collecting the water from the sky, and then boiled to clean it before storing it safely away.
But apart from that....Lukas always liked the rain. There were weather simulations, back at Honey, that he remembered growing up with. A large dome that could simulate weather inside that people used as a relaxation. Lukas felt a twinge in his chest as he remembered his past, gazing at the mountain cliffs that dripped, dripped down....
“....get a hold of yourself,” Lukas slapped his hands on his face to shake himself out of nostalgia. Taking a shaky breath underneath his face mask, he suddenly tensed as he saw a rock tumble down from a small hill next to him. Gazing up, he narrowed his eyes as he saw a slight movement come from between a pile of rubble.
“Who’s there?” Lukas called, a throwing knife sliding down his sleeve into his hand. “I’m warning you, it’s better to show yourself now instead of staying put. My knife can easily cut you down before you can do anything. So hurry up and step out.”
