Gorrister is a former political activist and conscientious objector who, along with four other humans, is eternally tortured by the superintelligent machine AM (Allied Mastercomputer). Initially ambitious and forward-thinking, Gorrister is reduced to an apathetic and hopeless state by AM. Gorrister also displays this hopelessness, yearning for death and willing to participate in AM's games in exchange for that chance.
