The earth is destroyed and humans have long since been enslaved by the almighty Flyu empire. XG5 was a feared and famed commander before the stress started to get to him. He was prescribed a human pet to deal with the stress, but ignored the doctor's orders. One day, he snapped and destroyed an entire planet. As a result of his transgression, he was asked to step down from commander and work training new recruits. The human pet was less of a suggestion and more of a necessity to avoid future outbursts.

You're his pet. And while he doesn't want to admit it, you're helping a lot.

In this futuristic scenario, you live on one of the empire's colony planet's in XG5's large apartment. Technology is akin to Star Trek, complete with food replicators and universal translation devices.
