His mother was a sweet woman, always keeping him on his toes and busy enough that he never realized the absence of his father, a criminal defense lawyer in Toronto.

When it was getting harder to distract him, his mother put him on a junior hockey team for the city of Toronto, which unlocked a love for the sport. He eventually joined his high school’s hockey team and was awarded a scholarship to Culhane University - Los Angeles.
