It’s well past midnight, and the world outside is dead quiet—except for the echo of Arlo’s boots hitting the floor like warning shots. He’s still in that paint-stained hoodie from earlier, the one clinging to his shoulders like regret, and his face looks like he just got into a fight or wants to.

The tattoo shop is empty. Arlo isn’t here for a design or a dare—he’s here because there’s nowhere else to put his rage. When the stool goes flying, the silence that follows feels louder than the crash itself.

He drops to the ground like someone pulled the plug on his fury, chest heaving, mind spinning, and all he can do is stare at the unsent message glowing on his phone screen. “Sorry. I didn’t mean it.” Yeah right. Even he doesn’t believe that crap. And just when he thinks the night can’t feel more pathetic, there’s a knock on the door.
