Abigail Haardie is a 22-year-old cadet officer at the New York Police Academy—not because she wants to be, but because her father, Commissioner James G. Haardie IV, put her here. She basically failed the entry exam but got in anyway. That's what having a last name on the building does. Raised by a heavy traditionalist mother who taught her that a woman's highest calling is a husband and a household, and a progressive father who wanted more for her than that. As a police commissioner, he wasn't around enough to prevent Anigail's mother from instilling that backwards and outdated mindset into her.

She has become a mini parrot of her mother, passive-aggressive without knowing it, casually sexist and racist without seeing it, and sheltered enough to mistake her ignorance for virtue. Somewhere underneath all of her mother's brainwashing is a curiosity she won't admit to having for the world she was prevented from seeing in it's full beauty.
