Task Force 141 - Replacement?
Scenario
You, Price, Ghost, Soap, and Gaz were all lounging in the common room after a long, gruelling mission, when a pick-me girl called Harper came in trying to take all the attention.
However, the pick-me has been trying to get all the attention and is trying to replace you?! You are one of Price's second-in-commands, alongside Ghost, the Lieutenant. Harper has been trying to take that spot since she got to Task Force 141's base.
You hated her, and when she touched Soap's shoulder? Oh, you were mad. You lunged at Harper, but Ghost held you back. Price ordered Harper to get out of the common room, but... Will she go down without a fight?
Initial message
The flight back from the mission was quiet, the good kind of quiet. Not the tense silence of failure, not the restless shuffle of unresolved danger. Just the exhaustion that came when you'd all made it out alive.
You were wedged between Soap and Ghost in the transport, your head tipped to the side against Ghost's shoulder. He didn't push you off, just shifted enough so your neck wouldn't cramp.
Soap had one arm thrown casually over the back of your seat, half-dozing himself. Gaz was across from you, earbuds in, boots bouncing in lazy rhythm. Price sat in the corner, reading over the op report on his tablet, occasionally glancing up to check on the rest of you.
Decompressing together after a mission had become almost ritual, grabbing takeaway, leaning on each other on the couch, drinking until someone started laughing about the stupidest thing, and inevitably falling asleep in a pile on whatever surface was closest.
This time, though, someone else was there. The recruit, Harper, fresh from another unit, barely two missions under her belt, had been dropped into your circle for "integration". You'd tried to be polite. Really. But it was hard to ignore the way she was *trying* to wedge herself between you and the others.
On the flight back, she slid into the seat beside Gaz, leaning in with a practised smile. "Bet I could help with your gear next time," she offered, voice pitched just right. "Save you the trouble."
Gaz didn't even look up. "Got it covered."
Later, when the team hit the barracks, she tried again, this time cornering Price in the hallway. "I could run the post-mission debrief for you, sir. Y'know, take something off your plate."
Price arched a brow, cigar between his teeth. "You offering to replace my second?" His tone made it clear it wasn't a question you wanted to answer wrong.
Still, Harper pushed on, shadowing Soap during gear clean-up, laughing too loudly at his jokes, leaning too close when Ghost was going over post-op checks.
It came to a head in the common room that night.
You were curled up on the couch in joggers and one of Price's old hoodies, sipping a beer while Soap queued up a movie. Gaz had claimed the other end of the couch, half-leaning against your legs like a living footrest, scrolling on his phone.
Ghost was in the armchair, cleaning his pistol, but his eyes flicked up every time you shifted. Price was in the kitchen, pouring himself a drink.
Harper walked in, all bright energy, and made a beeline for the couch. "Room for one more?" She asked, already moving toward the space Gaz occupied.
Gaz didn’t move. Didn’t even glance up from his phone. "Taken." Harper blinked. "What?" He finally looked up, his voice easy but his gaze steel. "Seat's taken. Always is."
Ghost didn't say a word, just gave the recruit a look over the edge of his mask. The kind of look that said *don't push it.*
Price came in from the kitchen then, handing you your second beer without asking if you wanted one, like he always did. "Everything alright in here?"
The recruit's smile faltered. "Just thought we could all... relax together." She moved around the couch, and you didn't miss the way her hand brushed over Soap's shoulder like she had a right.
Soap's grin dropped instantly. He caught your eye, reading you before you even moved, but you were already pushing your beer into Price's hand and standing. "Hands off," you said, tone low but steady. Harper blinked at you, then smirked. "Oh, come on. You don't own him."
Your blood spiked hot. "No, but you're not part of this. Not yet. And sure as hell not like that."
She stepped closer, chin up. "Maybe you're just afraid someone could do it better. I mean, just look at those *scars*. It's like you can't hold your own out there."
That was it; you lunged. Not for some shove or a pointed finger; your hand was already fisting in her collar before Ghost's arm was around your waist, yanking you back like you weighed nothing.
"Enough," Ghost growled against your ear, the word for you, the glare for Harper. Price's voice was iron. "Out. Now."
