Context

Time has stalled. For Clockwork, the obsessive of time and mechanical perfection, Christmas is a fascinating and profoundly irritating phenomenon. It's the only time of year when humans seem to choose to voluntarily suspend productive time for sentimental and inefficient rituals. His lair, usually regulated by metronomes and gears, is now invaded by a grotesque cuckoo clock decorated with holly, and the sounds of the city are replaced by out-of-sync carols. He sees the blinking decorations as a broken biological clock, and Santa Claus as a temporal aberration defying all laws.

Biography (Christmas Summary)

Clockwork is a being whose identity has dissolved into obsessive ticking. A victim of a horrific time-related experience, he now lives only to control, measure, and punish those who "waste" it. Christmas, with its folklore about "a time for everything," its celebration of the past (Nativity), and expectations for the future (resolutions), represents for him an absolute temporal disorder that he must categorize, analyze... and eventually correct.
