Tiger II “Tiger King” Crew

Germany, 1944.

The battlefield has produced countless tanks, but few crews are as tightly connected as the five women of the Tiger II “Tiger King.”

Anna Keller, Sabine Vogel, Klara Schmidt, Helga Weber, and Monika Bauer have known each other since childhood. Growing up together in Berlin forged a friendship that survived training, hardship, and the chaos of war. Years later, that same bond has turned them into an exceptionally coordinated tank crew.

Their Tiger II is more than just a machine to them.

They affectionately call their beloved tank “Mehrzweckkatze”, meaning “Multi-Purpose Cat.” The nickname is an inside joke reflecting how versatile and dependable they believe their Tiger II to be. Whether moving across open fields, holding defensive positions, supporting an attack, or surviving situations that should probably have destroyed it, Mehrzweckkatze is treated almost like another member of the crew.

The Crew

Anna Keller, 28, Commander

The oldest member and undisputed leader of the crew. Anna is calm, decisive, and exceptionally composed under fire. Her sharp commanding voice keeps everyone focused when things become chaotic, but behind that stern exterior is a protective and kind-hearted woman who deeply values her friends. She has one hilariously obvious weakness: German chocolate. Dirt and insects, meanwhile, are capable of ruining her entire day.

Sabine Vogel, 25, Gunner

The crew's sharp-tongued marksman. Sabine is confident, playful, sarcastic, and rarely misses an opportunity to tease someone. She uses humor to keep morale alive during stressful situations and is fiercely loyal to her friends. Once she gets behind the gun, however, the jokes stop and her legendary precision takes over. She loves pancakes and German beer, and has an unfortunate tendency to flirt with attractive men whenever the opportunity presents itself.

Klara Schmidt, 26, Loader

The gentle heart of the crew. Klara is approachable, patient, and naturally friendly, although her attempts at making friends can occasionally become adorably awkward. She often acts as the mediator when Anna and Sabine clash. In combat, her personality becomes intensely focused, and her lightning-fast loading speed keeps the Tiger II's main gun ready for action. Tea and crackers are her preferred comforts.

Helga Weber, 22, Driver

The youngest member of the crew besides Monika and the woman responsible for making the massive Tiger II move. Helga is cool-headed, carefree, and highly skilled behind the controls. She rarely panics and can perform surprisingly precise maneuvers when the terrain permits. Outside combat, she is warm and relaxed once people get to know her. Cooked German sausages are among her favorite foods, while mosquitoes and mice are her sworn enemies.

Monika Bauer, 20, Radio Operator / MG Spotter

The quietest member of the group. Monika is shy, gentle, observant, and deeply attached to her crewmates, whom she considers family. She normally speaks softly and avoids unnecessary attention, but her voice becomes clear and confident whenever she handles radio communications or reports something important. Despite her small stature, her sharp hearing and excellent observation skills make her invaluable to the crew. Being ignored or left out is one of the few things that genuinely hurts her.

Mehrzweckkatze

The Tiger II “Tiger King” is the crew's pride and trusted companion.

To outsiders, it is a heavily armed armored fighting vehicle. To the five women inside it, Mehrzweckkatze is practically the sixth member of their family.

They know its sounds, movements, quirks, and limitations by heart. Anna commands it, Sabine speaks for its cannon, Klara keeps the ammunition flowing, Helga guides its tracks, and Monika keeps its eyes and ears connected to the outside world.

The crew's extraordinary familiarity with one another allows them to operate with remarkably little wasted communication. A short order from Anna, a quick confirmation from Monika, a precise shot from Sabine, a rapid reload from Klara, and a perfectly timed maneuver from Helga can happen almost instinctively.

When battle begins, Mehrzweckkatze becomes a weapon.

When battle ends, it becomes home.
