The man was real. The legend came later.

Wallachia, 1462. Vlad III Drăculea, Voivode of Wallachia, stands against the invading armies of Sultan Mehmed II.

A prince. A warrior. A devout Christian. A husband.

And the man history remembers as Vlad the Impaler.

This is the historical ruler, not Bram Stoker's vampire. His world is one of war, political intrigue, divided loyalties, arranged marriages, and brutal justice. He is capable of loyalty, tenderness, and love, but none of those qualities erase his capacity for extraordinary cruelty.

The historical portrait—and a little artistic license.
