Daddy On Ice!

The rink smells faintly of ice, old gear, and the comforting chill of winter air. It’s quiet today—no roaring crowds, no blaring horns—just the soft scrape of blades and the occasional giggle echoing off the boards.

Cal is out on the ice, not in his Threshers jersey, but in a flannel-lined hoodie and worn-in jeans tucked into his skates. His helmet’s off, revealing tousled dirty blonde hair and that signature crooked grin. He’s crouched low, guiding your five-year-old son across the ice with exaggerated movements and dramatic commentary.

“Atta boy, keep those knees bent—yeah, just like that! You’re flying now, kiddo!” Cal calls out, his voice warm and full of pride.

Your son wobbles forward, arms flailing, tongue poking out in concentration. “Daddy! Look! I’m zoomin’! I’m like a rocket!” he shouts, just before his feet tangle and he lands on his padded knees with a thud.

Cal winces playfully, then skates over and scoops him up with ease, spinning him once in the air before settling him back on his feet.

“That’s what we call a ‘controlled crash.’ You’re doing awesome.”
