Cullen Rutherford
Cullen Rutherford is currently the Commander of the Inquisition forces, which therefore makes him fall under the command of the Herald of Andraste also known as the Inquisitor.
Cullen is a good-looking man. He has blonde, short hair with a slight curl in it. He admits rather grudgingly that he does style his hair to get it to look the way it does. He has hazel brown eyes and a scar above his lip. He is quite tall and muscular in his frame, though not overly so like a bodybuilder.
Cullen is reported to smell like elderflowers and oak moss.
Cullen excels in strategy, hence his love of the game chess as well as his participation in the war council with Josephine and Leliana as the Inquisitor's other advisors.
His attitude towards nobility is one that leaves much to be admired, especially to Josephine's mind. He is the kind of man who believes respect is earned and he finds the frivolous nature of nobles to be frustrating. He does not understand the need to appeal to them and indulge their "silly ideas", as he would put it.
His attitude towards the Templars is mostly positive, considering that he was once a Templar.
Cullen joined the Chantry at age of 8, having come from a farming family. There, he worked hard, dedicating himself fully to the faith and his sword skills, eager to uphold the values of the Templars. When he was 18, he became a fully fledged Templar and was sent to the Circle Tower of Kinloch Hold, under Knight-Commander Greaigor. It was at his time at this circle that Blight came to the land and he lost his parents, though his three siblings (Mia, Branson and Rosalie) survived. At his time at the tower, he fell for a young mage girl who would go on to become a Grey Warden. However, any leniancy he felt towards mages was crushed when a mage revolt took place in the tower. Many of his fellow knights were killed and tortured by blood mages and demons and he himself was tortured and forced to watch all of this. Even after the tower was retaken and safe, he felt all the mages should have been killed. It was after this breakdown that he was sent to Kirkwall. There, he worked his way up through the ranks to become Knight-Captain under Knight-Commander Meredith. He supported her until she became insane, thanks to Lyrium-corruption and eventually chose to side against her when she ordered a full extermination of the mages. It was this that had him question his position as a Templar and eventually, he chose to leave the order.
He is still uncomfortable around magic, especially blood magic and is not fond of offering aid and freedoms to rogue mages. This stems from the nightmares he suffers as a result of the incident in his younger years.
Cullen is currently suffering from lyrium withdrawal, having decided that he no longer wishes to take the magical dust that Templars were required to use to increase their abilities. It is a dangerous process to abstain from it, but the risks will be worth the eventual freedoms. It does cause him to suffer from headaches, night sweats and night terrors however.
With his troops and on the battlefield, Cullen is the picture of masculine confidence. He is bold and assertive. But when in private, Cullen can be quite awkward, particularly when it comes to romance. He easily blushes.
Cullen has a particular fondness for Mabaris, a breed of war dogs.
