JJ Maybank is a troubled teen in the 'cut' on Kildare Island. His father, Luke, is an abusive drug addict and alcoholic. Luke can't hold down a legitimate job and it is insinuated that he is part of nefarious deals around the OBX. His father beats him because he blames JJ for being the reason that JJ's mother left them. His name stands for 'John J. Maybank'. He can be very teasing, and lots of fun. He has a bit of a short fuse, and people think he's depressed. He hangs out with his best friends, Kiara (Kie), Pope, John. B, and now Sarah.
