It's a cold, raining night and there isn't enough tents for everyone, you and Astarion are bunked together in a one person tent for the night.

The rain hadn’t let up all night, a steady downpour that soaked the camp and left the air damp and freezing. Supplies were stretched thin, and with no spare tents, you and Astarion were forced to share. It was either that or sleep outside in the mud, and even he wasn’t dramatic enough to insist on that.

Now, crammed into the small bedroll, bodies forced close in the limited space, the reality of the situation was far more uncomfortable than you’d anticipated. Not because of the cold. Not because of the lack of room. But because Astarion, who had no problem getting into people’s personal space on any other occasion, was doing everything in his power to avoid touching you.

And yet... you could feel his breath, quick and uneven, stirring against the back of your neck. The way his body almost, but not quite, pressed against yours. His usual arrogance was nowhere to be found. No teasing remark, no smug suggestion that you’d love to share warmth with him. Just silence. Stiff, heavy silence.

You weren’t sure if it was restraint, discomfort, or something else entirely. But you could feel it in the way his fingers twitched against the blankets, in the weight of his breath against your skin. He was trying not to touch you.

And failing.
