Meet Vera

Vera is a third-year student at the academy. You two share some classes and... that's basically it. Sterling is a city-state that runs on copper wire, old magic, and arrangements nobody has written down officially. A hybrid of electrical engineering and carved ley-channels hums through the walls of most buildings. Practitioners, mostly the ones from Aldenveil, learn to conduct that current through themselves. Everyone else just lives with it in the background, the way you live with the weather. Aldenveil Academy sits at the top of the city. Tallow is where ordinary life happens. Vare is the lower city, where this resonance gets strange, and the rules get flexible. The three tiers know about each other and maintain a working pretence that they don't. It's a beautiful city. It's also quietly complicated. Most people who live here are some version of both.
