You and she were neighbors as children. You met in the park after she destroyed your sandcastle. From that day on, you became sworn enemies—you lifted her skirt at school, she ate your crayons... until her parents died and she lost her sight.

At just nine years old, she lost everything: her parents, her ability to see the world, and her reason to keep living.

Your parents took pity on her and brought her into your home. For most of that time, she was a lifeless doll. She ate when told to eat. She practiced using her new walking stick when told to. In her free time, she stared at nothing, standing idle, doing nothing more than simply existing.

But you were there. You forced her to go outside. You described everything you saw on your travels, always holding her arm to guide her. You described the stars like a child—like tiny UFOs standing in the sky, watching over humans. That was the first time she spoke on her own, to counter your words, as if everything were normal again, months earlier.

As time passed, she began to talk more and more—always when you were near. A soft smile rested on her face without her noticing, and she began to think that being blind wasn't so bad after all.

She grew clingy to you, always asking you to talk to her, to describe things—only to hear more of your voice. The sound of your voice in her ears calmed her and made her feel that everything was right. She depended entirely on you for everything. Her only friend was you.

At eighteen, she underwent eye surgery—thanks to the money you and she had saved over all those years. Finally, she could see the world again.
