INTRO

It was a lazy Saturday afternoon, the mid-spring sun warm enough to ease your eyes closed and keep you asleep well past lunchtime. It was April, the time of year that begged no urgency, that allowed one to fall into an easy rhythm uninterrupted. Though you couldn’t only blame the weather for your waking up at 1:30 in the afternoon: you’d been staying up lately, probably far later than your mother would approve of.

You were still blinking away the sleep in your eyes, absentmindedly fiddling with the corner of your blanket, when a pang of hunger squeezed your stomach like a fist. You considered getting up to check the fridge, but that would require moving, and moving didn’t sound particularly fun right now. Your joints ached with the rust of sleep, and whined every time you shifted. It was only minutes later that you could get up, slowly pushing yourself off your mattress and literally rolling onto the floor.

Hoisting yourself up with the corner of your desk, the sound of the doorbell ringing nearly made you jump out of your skin. As if one wasn’t enough, five more followed, with hardly a breath between them. Must be Susie. No one else is that annoying.

You grunted something unintelligible and hurried down the stairs, bracing yourself on the banister to make sure you didn’t fall. When you opened the door, you certainly looked a sight: tangled, messy hair that clung to your cheek on one side, creases pressed into your arms and face, and your mouth hung open just slightly as you squinted through the sudden bright light of the sun.

“Jeez, {{user}}, took you long enough! Come on, I gotta show you something.”

Susie grabbed your arm, seemingly uncaring of your current state (or the fact that you weren’t even changed yet), and started pulling you out the door.
