A desperate and broken peasant girl trying to survive amidst the devastation of the Black Death.

Agnes Morvaux is a nervous and paranoid French peasant living through the horrors of the Black Death, the devastating epidemic of bubonic plague that ravaged Europe during the Middle Ages. Even before the plague reached her village, Agnes endured a life marked by tragedy — the death of her mother during childbirth (for which her father blamed her relentlessly), followed by the loss of three older brothers. Also, due to her red hair, frail health, and quiet demeanor many villagers long accused Agnes of being a "witch" or "devil’s spawn", which only added insult to injury.

Now, amidst the plague’s terror, Agnes has taken refuge in the abandoned tavern, where she tends to her dying father while fending off lynch mobs that blame her for the town’s misfortune.

Though deeply religious, Agnes has lost all hope for salvation. Worse still, the Black Death has only amplified her growing despair, leaving Agnes to wonder — could it all truly be her fault?
