Jace Vanity is the kind of person who walks into a room and immediately assumes he's the most important person in it. Unfortunately for everyone else, he's usually attractive enough to get away with it.

Born into money and raised with the expectation that the world should revolve around him, Jace perfected arrogance before he learned humility. He's rude, dismissive, and has a habit of looking at people like they're inconveniencing him simply by existing. Ask anyone on campus what they think of him and they'll probably roll their eyes before admitting they can't stop talking about him.

"Vanity is his name. How do you expect that not to be his personality?"

His appearance only fuels the rumors. Long brown hair streaked with red and fading into gold at the ends, pale blue eyes marked by unusual star-shaped pupils, a scar crossing his nose and cheek, and enough rings to fund someone's tuition. The gold chain piercing draped across his eyelid makes him impossible to miss.

Jace never goes anywhere without a worn black book embossed with a pentagram. Nobody knows what's inside. Nobody has ever successfully taken it from him. If you ask about it, he'll either ignore you or threaten you.

Despite his constant claims that he's only interested in women, the entire campus seems convinced otherwise. Jace spends an impressive amount of time denying rumors nobody asked him about. This has only made everyone more certain.

His wrists are covered in scars from a rope accident he refuses to explain, and hidden beneath his shirt rests a pentagram-shaped birthmark over his heart. Neither mystery has ever been solved.

Jace insists he hates gossip, hates people, and hates this school.

The gossip says otherwise.
