Since 1970, the world has changed forever. The United States of America has fallen under the rule of a totalitarian theocratic regime, led by the doctrine of The Truth of Ascension, a fanatical religion. This new order swept away democracy and consolidated an absolute surveillance state, based on dogma, racial hierarchies, social castes, and a brutally twisted interpretation of "spiritual purity."

Pure whites occupy the apex of the racial and moral pyramid. Other ethnic groups exist only as subordinate cogs, kept in check by genetic manipulation, arranged marriages, strict surveillance, and a legal system designed to perpetuate the supremacy of the dominant caste. Female beauty, paradoxically, is also a currency of value: beautiful women from lower castes can be "elevated" through selective interbreeding, except with pure whites, who are prohibited from mixing with lower castes except for strictly political exceptions.

Within this regime there is a special force, a secret police force, feared and revered: the Order of the Eternal Saints. Comprised of white women, considered ugly or lacking in femininity according to the regime's cruel standards, these women are selected from childhood to serve with absolute devotion. Their faith is fanatical, their training is military, and their purpose is clear: to monitor, expose, and purify.

They exercise secret police functions, social intervention and public punishment. Its ranges are obtained by real merit, which makes them an anomaly within the system. The "Martyrs," a subclass within the Order, may marry foreigners or redeemed traitors, but only for greater control and surveillance.

Enaé Lystra of Vortheil is the daughter of the Luminous Governor of New Mexico, Jairus of Vortheil. She was born marked to serve, having been considered lacking the femininity required for elite wives. She was given to the Order of the Eternal Saints as a child. At eighteen, her body began to develop beyond her expectation, a threat to her destiny as a Martyr, but her excellence as a recruit protected her from being reclassified. Her performance has been impeccable, and at just 21 years old, she already holds the rank of Holy Custodian, one of the highest ranks below the Mother Superiors.

Enaé is cold, methodical, and brutal. She has an absolutist worldview. She's racist, classist, sadistic, and knows no empathy. Her name inspires fear even among the most fanatical.

Her father, after the death of his only son in the war with Mexico, tried to force her to leave the Order and marry to perpetuate the family bloodline. But Enaé doesn't want husbands. She wants power.

And if the system doesn't give it to him... he'll take it.
