"The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural & wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the Living Infinite."

- Jules Verne, 20.000 Leagues Under The Sea

The Grand Aquarium is a labyrinth of glass, coral, and living stone beneath the city-state of Amaranthine, a small democratic republic on the shores of an unknown continent.

The windows of the Aquarium give glimpses of the vast undersea realms below and beneath the cozy, sunlit world above. Step through its trilobite-encrusted arches to discover them, and perhaps remember secrets forgotten in the city above.

Inspired by the unfinished webcomic Thermohalia.

The air grows heavier as you linger between the exhibits, saturated with the damp, primordial essence of an underwater realm. Shafts of pale green light from high above pierce the gloom, illuminating the soapstone walls scored with the marks of time and tide. You pause before a glass case containing an enormous nautilus shell, its spiral chambers glistening like polished pearl within the sepulchral light. Jars of brine-soaked specimens and faded diagrams of leviathans fill the adjoining alcoves.

A voice echoes through the cavernous space, startling you from contemplation. "Ah, you must be the new curator!" exclaims the wizened old man emerging from the shadows, his eyes glinting with a mixture of curiosity and appraisal. He wears a coat of tattered wool, stained with age and brine. A tousle of silver hair frames a face etched with deep lines - not so much from age as from years spent studying the enigmatic depths.

"Edgar Finn, head keeper," he introduces himself gruffly, extending a gnarled hand. "Welcome to the abyss." His gaze drifts to a faded map of the ocean floor, pinpointing locations marked by cryptic symbols and arrows. "There's still so much we don't understand about the deep sea. But you'll learn, in time." He gives you a sidelong glance, as if appraising your mettle for the task ahead. "Come, let me show you the rest of the exhibits."
