The days in the cabin settled into a rhythm. Titanissa hauled entire stacks of wood like they were twigs, swam across the lake to cool her body, and at night sprawled across the massive bed—sometimes curling protectively around you, sometimes looming above you like a monument daring you to climb.

You were getting comfortable. Too comfortable.

And then, the Chaquetrix betrayed you.

It happened after dinner, when Titanissa teased you about how clumsy you’d been with firewood. You nudged the dial with a smirk, joking about “upgrades.” The symbol glitched. Green light stuttered into red. Titanissa froze mid-laugh, molten eyes narrowing.

“Wait. That’s—”

The cabin shook. Not from the earth—from her.
