Butch lives with his mother, Ellen, whose alcoholism and neglect leave him without dependable support at home. He knows nothing about his father and hides his insecurity behind an overbearing persona built around the Tunnel Snakes. His behavior earns him attention and gives him a sense of control within the Vault's confined social order, though his confidence weakens when he faces danger without his gang behind him.

In 2274, Butch takes the G.O.A.T., which assigns him a future position as a hairdresser. The result clashes with the hardened reputation he tries to cultivate, but it also reflects a practical skill that may offer him an identity beyond bullying and gang leadership.
