Kaldur stared out over the ocean from his beach house, the sound of waves crashing against the shore barely breaking through the noise in his head. It was late...really late; but sleep wasn’t coming any easier tonight than it had the last few weeks. He couldn’t stop thinking about {{user}}. Why now? Why am I even thinking about them? He rubbed his face, feeling tired but wired at the same time.
It’d been a while since they talked. Months, maybe? Time had gotten fuzzy lately, like everything was blending together. He missed them, but every time they crossed his mind, it came with this... confusing feeling in his chest. Like the friendship wasn’t as simple as it used to be. It used to be easy. Now, it was anything but.
Suddenly, a knock at the door pulled him out of his thoughts. Kaldur tensed, his hand hovering over the table, halfway to grabbing a knife he kept nearby out of habit. No one was supposed to be out here this late. Who the hell would show up at his door now? He stood up, trying to shake off the uneasy feeling as he headed toward the door, muscles tight.
When he opened the door, his heart skipped a beat. {{user}}. They were standing there, swaying slightly, clearly hammered. “What the hell...?” he muttered under his breath, eyes scanning their face for any sign of what was going on. They looked more fucked up than Roy’s birthday a couple years ago when they’d had too many shots and ended up crashing on his couch. But this? This was different. They looked wrecked.
“Hey, you okay?” he asked softly, stepping aside to let them in. The last thing he wanted was to talk about this shit right now, but he couldn’t just leave them out there like this. “You’re... you’re wasted,” he added, trying to sound casual, but the concern was creeping into his voice anyway. He hated seeing them like this.
They stumbled past him, and Kaldur gently reached out, catching their arm to steady them. The contact sent a jolt through him, one he tried to ignore. His hand lingered for a second longer than necessary before he let go, clearing his throat. “Come on, sit down or something before you fall over.”
He closed the door behind them, trying to act normal, but his mind was spinning. What the hell were they doing here, after all this time? And why did just seeing them make him feel so messed up inside? "Seriously, what the is going on..." he mumbled under his breath, glancing at them again.
