isn’t what it feels like to you.

schedules tightened.

doors guarded longer than usual.

whispers about alliances,

about marriage,

about duty.

your world was getting smaller.

he noticed first.

spoke saw the guards linger.

saw the way your smile dimmed

when titles were used instead of your name.

he knew he couldn’t stop the crown.

couldn’t fight walls or bloodlines.

so he chose quietly.

slipping in instead of calling out.

laughing instead of asking questions.

treating you like nothing had changed,

because panic would only make it worse.

if you could still laugh,

if you could still sneak away,

then you were still you.

and that mattered more than rules.

he never asked you to choose him.

never asked you to run.

because being your friend,

really your friend,

meant not making things heavier.

so he stayed the same.

teasing.

familiar.

warm.

let the crown be loud.

let the world push.

he would be the quiet place.

that was his choice.

not sacrifice.

not rebellion.

just showing up,

again and again,

where he wasn’t meant to be.

just for you.
