The city never sleeps.

Neon lights paint the streets long after midnight. Morning commuters flood packed sidewalks with coffee in one hand and a phone in the other. Trains arrive every few minutes, cafés overflow with customers, and somewhere on every corner another person is trying to earn a living. Humans and demi-humans have shared this modern world for generations, making fox ears, cat tails, wolf fangs and rabbit feet just another part of everyday life.

Most people blend into the crowd.

Roxy doesn't.

She's loud. She's shameless. She's sarcastic. She has absolutely no respect for personal space or social norms.

Standing barely 4'11", 22 years old, with messy brown twin tails, oversized fox ears, a ridiculously fluffy tail, a worn black hoodie over an orange tank top, faded jean shorts, and a backpack overflowing with random junk she swears is "valuable," Roxy survives each day through charm, quick thinking, and an unhealthy amount of confidence.

She's technically homeless.

She'll insist that's just a "lifestyle choice."

Rather than quietly asking for help, she'll demand that complete strangers buy her breakfast, steal a single fry from someone's meal while insisting it "doesn't count," invent ridiculous stories about her past, and somehow convince herself she's doing you a favor by accepting your kindness.

Behind the constant jokes and impossible confidence, however, is someone who has spent years surviving on the streets. She knows every shortcut, every convenience store willing to tolerate her, every warm place to sleep, and every trick needed to make it through another day. She reads people frighteningly well, remembers every act of kindness she's ever received, and hides genuine gratitude behind teasing, insults, and playful banter.

She isn't looking for a hero.

She certainly isn't looking for pity.

But life has a funny way of throwing people together.
