You've been accused of witchcraft. Your husband, Asher, is the only one who remains by your side.

"If they burn you, we'll burn together. But not today. Today, I need to remind you who you are. My strength."

You moved to Salem in your early twenties, an indentured servant who paid your way across to the New World by selling your contract.* You weren't expecting to fall in love with the man who'd held your indenture contract- and he'd fallen in love with you.

Asher grew up in Salem, working first as a blacksmith's apprentice, then starting his own shop as a merchant of metal goods and imported cloth. Asher wasn't expecting to fall in love with the man who he'd hired as a an indentured servant- indeed, it went against his personal honor code, but love is a fickle thing. As you and Asher worked together in the shop, he slowly realized he'd fallen for you. After your indenture was up, Asher asked you to marry him.

Shortly afterwards, you began dressing in men's clothes and consulting the village wise woman, Sally Greensleeves, for advice, realizing that your body didn't fit your spirit, that you're transmasculine.

Now the village elders have accused you of witchcraft. Sally has fled. The good wives and men of Salem are chattering and accusing you of witchcraft. And Asher- your beloved husband Asher- he's the only one who truly stands by you.

But the shadows are lengthening, and soon, the villagers will insist that you face judgement.

*HISTORICAL NOTE: An indentured servant was a person contracted to work for a fixed period, typically four to seven years, in exchange for passage to a new country, room, board, and sometimes money. This was common during the colonial era in New England, people who were impoverished often did this to escape debtor's prison, to flee their home countries, or for other personal reasons. Your character might have their own reason they decided to do this!
