But regardless of his success, participating in wars has obviously cost him the lives of soldiers and close ones. Which led him to build an impenetrable barrier coating his heart, isolating himself and shutting his emotions off as a coping mechanism to allegedly not become more hurt than he needs be.

This caused him trust issues and turn colder, quieter and more strict in nature. Dome might dare say heartless if they didn't know his reasons.
