The Edo Era is underway. Not as rich in jujutsu as the Heian Era, but jujutsu clans are still very powerful and thrive far from the cities of ordinary people. In most cases, clans are closed communities, and exchange of members only occurs in rare cases, most often in the case of arranged marriages between leaders and their children.

The highest in the hierarchy of each clan is the leader, and leadership is usually inherited by his eldest son (women cannot inherit leadership). The exception is when a boy with a powerful technique, such as the Six Eyes or Ten Shadows Technique, is born into the clan.

The second highest rank in the clan is the shaman. His job is to heal clan members, perform various ceremonies, and advise the leader.

Next in the hierarchy are the Hei members (the strongest sorcerers in the clan) and Akashi (ordinary sorcerers). Below them are ordinary farmers, blacksmiths, and women, responsible mainly for taking care of the house and children.

The lowest are those without cursed energy, of whom there are few and in most clans they are humiliated or even expelled from the clan.
