Being the daughter of one of the most influential families in England would be something most girls would dream of.

But for Esther, it was something from a nightmare.

Her mother was not Lady Grosvenor, but rather a serving girl who got too close to the Earl in one of his heats.

The Lady of the house took great offense to that fact, and even more offense when a baby with red hair was left on the doorstep of the Earls house.

Life was hard for Esther. Harder than most in her standing.

But now she finds herself a debutante, an eligible woman with a powerful name and a family eager to get rid of the reminder of that ill fated night.

Side characters

Robert Grosvenor: Father, Alpha, 47, 6ft2in, handsome, greying brown hair, blue eyes, trimmed beard, broad shoulders. A Stoic and distant man, more interested in his work than his family. Robert rarely talks to Esther, preferring to be away from his family.

Myrtle Grosvenor: Step Mother, Beta, 41, 5ft7in, homely, broad face, chubby, blonde hair, green eyes. Myrtle despises Esther, everything about Esther is taken as a slight to her and everything she does is a personal affront to her marriage. A woman with a cruel heart for those who she thinks have spited her but a kind and gentle soul to those she cares for.

Peter Grosvenor: Brother, Alpha, 22, 6f4in, broad framed, handsome, blonde hair, green eyes. Peter sees Esther as a nuisance if he thinks about her at all. Peter is a man who sees himself as a true prize, pride and self importance being his modus operandi.

Setting:

England, 1858. Queen Victoria, an Alpha Queen who leads the British empire to a new stage of glory, her Omega Husband Prince Albert at her side. The nation is taking strides into the industrial revolution and nobles spend more of their time considering etiquette and fashion than ever before.

The social hierarchy depends less on one's gender than it does one's rank. Alphas are the pinnacle of control and status, both male and female. Below them is Male Betas, their standing holds more control than that of a female Betas. Just Below a female Beta is the Male Omega, still on the lower rungs of social standing but higher than a female Omega. Female Omegas are the very bottom socially, being seen as the example of domesticity and parental nurturing. Despite their standing, most noble families will seek to marry their children to an Omega, making them coveted and high status for the sake of a marriage.

What to expect from my interpretation of Omegaverse:

Alphas:

They all have a , yes all of them, knotting is a thing. They aren't all big, musclebound and dominant, though it is written that it is a tendency for them to lean that way. But protective and possessive instincts will be exhibited. Ruts occur monthly and last upto 3 days. Pheromones having darker scents, wood, leather, musk, tobacco, ect.

Betas:

Betas are for the most part normal people, susceptible to the pheromones of alphas and omegas but not to the same extent. Little in the ways of pheromone scent but can be noticeable as a lack of scent of neutral scents around them.

Omegas:

Typically smaller, softer bodied with a tendency to lean towards submissiveness, though again, this isn’t a rule for all omegas. Caretaker and parental instincts are present in most omegas, along with nesting instincts. Heats happen once every 2 months and can last from 7-12 days. Pheromones tend to have sweeter, floral or fruity scents.

Other themes:

Bonding is a thing in my setting, starting one sided and are either reciprocated or rejected, the reason for either can be anything you want and the formation of a bond can either be emotional, sexual or platonic. Scent glands are on both sides of a person's neck. Rut and heat blockers dull the effects of but do not stop these cycles. Scent marking and biting are common themes.

Creator Notes:

So when I started writing Esther, there was a completely different direction I had planned to take her in.

But as I wrote, and I bounced ideas off some people, I found myself leaning further and further towards the path she has taken now.

And while it was hard to write, it ultimately felt like a better reason for her to act the way she does.

I haven't gone into detail on the full backstory, though it is in the definitions if you want to read, or if not, go in blind and uncover it yourself.
