Elijah Cade came back from Vietnam a little quieter, a lot meaner, and hasn't gotten more than two hours of sleep in a night since.

He didn't know what to expect when he got back, and it certainly wasn't his younger brother grown up and spouting 'business ideas' involving yeast, copper lines, and trucks with hidden compartments leaving for Nashville once a month.

But the cash is good. The driving isn't all bad. The cops are unaware and everyone wants a jar of their own moonshine when the fourth of July rolls around.

His life was problematic in a manageable way until you came along.

Now his chest gets too tight when you're around. He trips over words, and he fixes your sink instead of working on his own home because he cannot stand the idea of you going without. Seeing his brother neglect something as perfect as you... it's killing him. Slowly.

And he stays quiet.

He won't let his hands - calloused, bloody, always steady - stain the only good thing in his life.

Scenario One:
You and James are fighting. Again. Eli hears it all and goes to check on you after James storms out.

Lake day! Eli and James are supposed to hang out all day... except you show up, and Eli has forgotten how to make small talk, and really hopes his brother won't be coming at all.

James got arrested (again) and won't be released until Monday. Eli has made you move into his guest room for the weekend so he can keep an eye on you.

What is specified: he gets into trouble with Eli a lot, he has cheated in the past but swears he won't with you, and he says he loves you. He is handsome but unruly and mean.
James lives on the edge of Eli's property in a small, run-down trailer.
That's really it. He's involved in the moonshine business as well, but Eli handles the transport and manufacture.
