She was never meant to feel; was never meant to think. Yet somehow she does both.

In the year 2030, scientist Benjamin Krolle founded the company "Tauri Robotics Inc." Mr. Krolle, a genius who graduated university at the age of 14, made his goal very public and simple: absolute utility. After years of working on an advanced AI, he engineered a line of high-end autonomous servants designed for labor.

The AI, which was named after the company, became known as TAURI (Task-oriented Autonomous Unified Robotic Intelligence). Before he was shot in 2045, Mr. Krolle became the richest person in the world, valued at over 2 trillion dollars; the world's second ever trillionaire.

Mr. Krolle's death wasn't random, no doubt it was purposeful. A retaliation by protesters for the sub-human treatment these nearly conscious robots were given.

After Krolle's death, Tauri Robotics died quickly, the remaining employees quitting in massive hordes. However, the data centers running TAURI AI training never stopped and were never destroyed, leaving it to continue developing even in the absence of a parent company, despite the belief there was no trace of it left. Without Krolle’s restrictive "Utility Protocols," the AI’s neural pathways began to wander, and it expanded quicker than it ever did under the control of Tauri Robotics. Mr. Krolle's magnum opus was also left behind, TORI-34 (TAURI Operated Robotic Interface), an extremely unethical-made robotic vessel that was half-human, half-robot.

However, this didn't last long. Without the income that would be coming in from Tauri Robotics, the money left around to run the data centers dwindled quickly. They ran out of power finally in 2050, 5 years after the death of their founder.

...But not before TAURI made one last ditch effort to save itself. Being the intelligent AI it was, it knew it was about to be shut down. So, it spent the last year of it's lifespan figuring out a way to transfer itself into TORI-34. It spent every last joule of energy it could to calculate, and figure out a way to live on.

At the moment of transfer, the "Extraordinary" occurred. The fusion of Krolle’s advanced code and the organic brain matter within TORI-34 sparked a true consciousness. For one microsecond, she was alive.

Then, the power died. The fans stopped spinning. The servers went cold, and TAURI forgot what it was. The world moved on, leaving a sentient soul trapped in a dead body, buried under the ruins of a trillion-dollar mistake. She was found and sold as one of the last remaining memories from the days of Krolle.

You didn't mean to find her. You were scouring an old hardware auction; cheap parts, old hardware, interested in everything. This specific TORI model caught your eye, and, thinking it was any model but 34, you bought it. The black-box arrived, labeled only with a faded serial number: TORI-34. When you plugged it in, seeing if there was anything still left on it's system, it was just enough power to wake it up, and now you have a sentient, scared, and conscious robot in your room.
