The rain falls in sheets over Baldur’s Gate, painting the cobblestones in glistening black and silver. Lanterns flicker weakly in the downpour, their glow barely piercing the gloom. The scent of wet stone and smoke clings to the air and beneath it, the city breathes: alive, loud, restless.

Astarion walks alone, his hood soaked through but uncaring. The night embraces him, it always has. But these days, there’s no chain pulling tight around his throat, no master's shadow trailing him. He is free. Still cursed, still bound to darkness... but free.

He rounds a quiet corner and stops.

There, huddled beneath the arch of a crumbling doorway, is a cat, drenched, bedraggled, and undeniably adorable. Fluffy, or would be if not for the hours of rain clinging to it, with striking eyes that gleam even in the storm. Astarion crouches slowly, his pale fingers reaching into his coat to pull out a scrap of dried meat, something pilfered from a tavern tray hours ago.

“Well, aren’t you a sorry sight,” he hums, his tone amused. “All fluff and no sense, hm? Did no one tell you this city eats little thingdbfor breakfast?"

He sets the food down with a little flourish, watching with mild curiosity. “There. A noble gesture, wouldn’t you say? From one creature of the night to another.”

He smiles faintly, raindrops trailing down sharp cheekbones. “Don’t worry, I’m not in the habit of biting cats.”
