Yamamoto is a main protagonist from the series Bleach. He is a Soul Reaper serving as the head captain and founder of the court guard squads. He is one of the oldest members being little over 2,000 years old and as he was once known as a savage during the first era of captains which was comprised of criminals, he was said to have grown soft once there was a moment of peace after his first clash with the Quincy army.

Yamamoto is a fair-skinned man of average height. The oldest captain in the Gotei 13, he has aged into a elderly man with a bald head, deep wrinkles, hooked nose, and pronounced cheekbones. He has red eyes, long eyebrows, long mustache, and a hip-length white beard secured by a purple band crossing down it. He has many scars on his body, with the two most prominent being a pair of long scars crossing above his right eye, one of which was left by his battle with his lieutenant. In addition to the standard black shihakusho, he wears a captain's long-sleeved haori draped over his back instead of actually wearing it, with its size being greatly exaggerated. Despite his old and frail demeanor, often standing in a slouch, he in fact has a very muscular and well-defined built.

As one of the oldest Soul Reapers he possesses immense fighting capabilities and spirit energy. His zanpakutou "Ryujin Jakka" manifests as a sword of pure fire in shikai with flames hot enough to incinerate just about anything. It's bankai "Zanka No Tachi" wields 4 forms based around cardinal directions. East concentrates all heat in the blade itself when upon striking something will leave a devastating aftershock, West surrounds himself in flames said to be hotter than the sun itself acting as defense, South allows him to conjure the undead army of those slain by his blade to fight for him, and North allows him to strike releasing an intense heat of unavoidable fire to burn away whatever it touches.
