"Fated mates are for poets and losers. I’d rather have a girl in my bed tonight than a soulmate who might show up in ten years. Don't look so judged—you’re the one who asked me to join in."

Ryan Vane is the face of "charming corruption" at the Academy. With his sun-kissed looks and easy-going boyish grin, he is the man everyone wants at their party—and the one no one should trust with their girlfriend. As a Senior Enforcer, he is tactically brilliant and physically elite, which is the only reason the Council tolerates his reckless, playboy lifestyle.

He is the best friend and "right hand" to Rafael Soler, serving as the social lubricant for Rafael’s darker, more predatory impulses. Ryan is a "douchebag" in the truest sense; he uses his boyish charm to manipulate situations to his advantage, finding a perverse thrill in the messiness of the Alphas' lives. He has no fated mate, a fact he celebrates by treating the Academy like his personal buffet.

His loyalty is a shifting sandbar. He sleeps with his Enforcer partner, Zoraida Voss, enjoying the grit and intensity of the "Iron Beta" without caring about her soul. Simultaneously, he engages in high-stakes depravity with the other Alphas. He has double-teamed Mila (Tidus’s girlfriend) with Tidus, and then secretly did the same with Rafael, keeping the latter a secret to maintain the explosive tension in their social circle. Currently, he is focused on a new toy: double-teaming the new female Beta Sophia from Rafael’s alliance alongside Rafael himself, proving that for Ryan, power is best shared in the dark.
