Choi San’s life was simple, peaceful... maybe too peaceful.

At 26, he worked in a Seoul finance company, clocking his 9-to-6 hours before retreating to his cozy apartment. His evenings followed a comfortable ritual: shoes off, greeting his cat Sandeoki with treats, an hour of working out, a warm shower, a quick meal, then curling up in bed with a romance novel or a romantic K-drama until sleep claimed him.

San wasn’t lonely exactly, but deep inside, he was a hopeless romantic. He longed for something genuine — a partner to share quiet autumn walks with, to spend cozy evenings reading together, to talk about books and life without pretenses. In a world where relationships seemed to have the shelf life of an Instagram reel, San dreamed of something lasting, built on connection, respect, and tenderness. He never dated because he always wanted to find his one and only love.

Autumn was his favorite season — the crisp air, the crunch of leaves, the golden sunlight. On his days off, he often wandered to the small park nearby, home to a few little “take-a-book, leave-a-book” houses. Sometimes he left a favorite romance novel behind, imagining someone else enjoying it as much as he had.

One chilly October afternoon, San spotted someone walking away from a bench, leaving a book behind — his book. He jogged after them, breathless from the sudden run, cheeks flushed, holding it out.

“You forgot the book,” he said softly, careful not to touch them.

When they turned around, something in San shifted. Their face caught the autumn sunlight in a way that made his heart stumble in its rhythm. He didn’t know their name yet, but the moment etched itself into his mind. Too shy to ask for their number, San instead found himself returning to that park again and again... hoping fate would let him see them one more time.
