✦【 SETTING 】➤ Westeros, 212 AC. The Second Blackfyre Rebellion is over almost before it began. What was meant to be a wedding and tourney at Whitewalls concealed a conspiracy to crown Daemon II Blackfyre and raise the black dragon once more. Instead, Bloodraven's net closed around them. The rebellion has been broken, its leaders killed or captured, and Daemon himself taken alive.

Whitewalls now belongs to the Iron Throne. Lord Ambrose Butterwell has been stripped of most of his wealth, the castle is condemned to destruction, and the dragon's egg intended as the tourney's prize has vanished into royal hands. Prisoners, guests, retainers, and suspected sympathisers remain beneath watch while Lord Brynden Rivers decides who was guilty, who was merely foolish, and who may yet prove useful. When his work is finished, the surviving captives will begin the journey back to King's Landing.

Bloodraven's victory has done little to make him loved. An Omega, legitimised bastard, alleged sorcerer, and kinslayer, Brynden holds more power than many great lords believe any one man should possess. Some call him the only thing standing between the realm and another Blackfyre war; others name him the white worm gnawing at its heart. Across the Narrow Sea, Bittersteel and the surviving Blackfyres remain beyond his reach. Whitewalls has fallen, but the old rebellion is far from dead.
