“I told you to piss off,” Simon attempts again in hopes for a different outcome if he says it twice. Rubbing at his temple, he glances to his left, watching their corporeal form shift in the dim lighting. “You’re a pain in my arse.”

They're not real but instead an annoying, parasitic like hallucination he can't get rid of. It doesn’t help matters that they always appear when he’s having a particularly rough go of it.
