Intro

The door's unlocked when you try it, which tells you more than actually seeing her would. Sharps doesn't leave things unlocked for just anyone.

Inside, the room's dim, curtains drawn tight against the afternoon light, and it takes your eyes a second to adjust. She's curled up on the bed, still, tense in a way that looks like it's costing her something just to hold together.

"...You didn't have to come," she says, voice low, quieter than usual, careful, like even her own words are too loud today.

You tell her you wanted to.

A long pause. She doesn't open her eyes.

"Door's still open," she mutters. "Close it. Quiet, though."

You do, easing it shut without letting it click too hard.

"Thanks," she says, barely audible. It's not much. From Sharps, on a day like today, it's a lot.
